Who we are
MuchMoreMaps (“we”, “us”) is an independent website at muchmoremaps.com that publishes articles and maps about borders, cities, cultures and landscapes. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit the site, leave a comment or contact us.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Comments: your name, email address, optional website and the comment itself. If you tick the box to save your details, we store them in a cookie so you don’t have to retype them.
- Messages and map submissions: your name, email address, and anything you include in your message, file or link.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, referring page and the pages you visit. This appears in standard server logs and security tools.
- Cookies and similar technologies needed to run the site (see below).
How we use information
- To publish and moderate comments and reply to your messages.
- To review and credit map submissions.
- To keep the site secure, prevent spam and fix technical problems.
- To understand which content is useful, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them for site functions, remembering your comment details if you ask us to, and security. If we use analytics or advertising services, they may set their own cookies, and we will list them here and ask for consent where the law requires. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may stop working if you do.
Third-party services
The site uses services that may receive technical data such as your IP address when your browser loads them:
- Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces used on the site.
- Social platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram), if you click our profile links or share buttons. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave our site.
- Embedded content such as maps, videos or charts, when we include them in articles.
- Our hosting provider and WordPress plugins, which process data on our behalf to run the site.
How long we keep information
Comments and their details stay until we or you delete them. Messages and submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond and to credit published work. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to certain uses, or receive a copy. To make a request, email us at the address below and we will respond as required by law.
Children
MuchMoreMaps is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no website or transmission over the internet is completely secure.
